Marine and Boat Ice Blasting
Dry Ice Blasting is a highly sought-after cleaning method in the Marine and Boat industries. Traditional methods of cleaning have often left precious surfaces and components damaged. Dry Ice Blasting is a non-abrasive, chemical-free, method of cleaning.
Dry Ice Blasting can be applied to;
- Hull
- Decks
- Superstructures
- Engines
- Pumps
- Generators
- Electrical equipment
- And more!
As this cleaning method is non-conductive, it can easily be used on or around electrical appliances without causing any hazards.
Its gentle nature means it does not damage surfaces, so it is ideal for use on delicate materials such as fibreglass, gelcoat, and aluminium.
A big plus point for Dry Ice Blasting, in comparison to traditional cleaning methods, is that it is chemical-free and non-toxic, protecting the environment and marine life.

Understanding Dry Ice Blasting for Marines and Boats
When the protective layer of anti-fouling needs to be removed and renewed, dry ice blasting is the best method.
Ice blasting works by using dry ice pellets to remove contaminants from surfaces. Dry ice is the solid form of carbon dioxide with a temperature of -78.5 degrees Celsius (-110 degrees Fahrenheit). When dry ice pellets impact a surface, they sublimate which means they directly turn from a solid to a gas. This rapid sublimation creates a shock wave that dislodges contaminants from the surface.
The dry ice pellets also shatter on impact, which creates a micro-abrasive effect that helps to remove stubborn contaminants. In addition, the dry ice pellets cool the surface, which can help to shrink and loosen contaminants. This is highly effective in comparison to traditional blasting methods.
This gentle cleaning method is ideal for marines as the soft pellets will not damage delicate surfaces.
